Büyük Çamlıca (Greater Çamlıca) Hill, is one of the spots where the wonderful scenery of the Historical Peninsula, Bosphorus and the Marmara Sea is witnessed in the most beautiful manner. It is among the highest and most attractive spots of İstanbul. The hill, which is 267 meters long, invites people, who have resided at its foot since centuries, to its summit.
Büyük Çamlıca Hill, which virtually sets its visitors out on a journey in time, with its excellent scenery, is where the migratory birds can be observed most clearly and for the longest period of time in İstanbul. Birdwatchers from various countries of the world, all but settle in the Büyük Çamlıca Hill during the months of September and October to watch the migration of the birds. The Nurbaba Dervish Lodge and radio and TV transmitter towers are among the most well-known structures of the Büyük Çamlıca Hill.
Büyük Çamlıca Hill, which, today, remains fully within the urban area, is also used for daytrips and recreation areas. The hill, which had been an inspiration to poets, musicians, painters and writers, hosts the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality Çamlıca Social Facilities, which is a place of resort not only for the İstanbulites, but also for domestic and foreign tourists. The facility, which attracts attention with its kiosks, fountains, tea gardens, restaurants, walking-tracks, historical monument trees, wonderful vegetation and historical atmosphere, continues to host its domestic and foreign guests.
